There was a need to give clients the ability to theme their version of comScore software to match the customers company branding. We had to identify which parts of the application could be modified, how they design would be applied and how the end user would apply the customization.
We worked with the application development team to identify which page elements we could apply styles to and how the source code would be impacted. Once we had a guideline on what could be done, we looked at existing UI patterns for theming interfaces to find an applicable use case that we could leverage. We followed a pattern used for WordPress site theming and modified it to fit our needs.
We did initial moderated usability testing on a small set of users to see if themes could easily be applied and managed with great success. We delivered front end UI code and guidelines on how it would be applied to source code.
